The tallow stands out as the second most used feedstock for biodiesel production in Brazil and is an important input to social benefits, economic and environmental. The research aims to study the potential of the biodiesel productive chain of beef tallow and make an analysis of its competitive position in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes state of Rio de Janeiro. The research is descriptive qualitative. To survey the primary data research included a field study where we conducted interviews and visits to the main actors of the production chain in question. For the survey of secondary data were searched for papers, magazines, government and regulatory agencies. For the analysis of the competitive landscape was used as determinants of SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) and GUT matrix (Gravity, Urgency and Tendency) as a tool for prioritization of barriers to be overcome in and out of jail. The analysis resulted in a positive perspective of competitiveness of beef tallow as a feedstock for the production of biodiesel, however some barriers inside and outside the chain must be overcome
