Resumo: Accomplished studies indicate that the global cost for the companies, due to occupational accidents with injury, with diseases related to the work and accidents with damages to the property no causes of injury are equal to 5% to 10% of the gross profits of the companies. These accidents can happen in different process plants, because there are countless risks involved in the preparation or conditioning of equipments for the maintenance, in the alterations in factories, in the operation with storage tanks, in the use of hoses, or still with an indispensable component to all the process plants: the people. After the accident of the Platform Piper Alpha the companies of the exploration segment and petroleum production and gas created forums of discussions, seeking to elaborate a guide to establish a System of Permission to Work appropriate to the demands of that industrial segment. This work presents the System of Permission to Work, implanted starting from a model of system of administration of safety, health and environment, as a tool for the prevention of accidents. It also presents an example and discussion of flaws in system already implanted, seeking to contribute for safety's discipline in the work. Inside of this context, the System of Permission to Work is fundamental in the application of tools that make possible the practices of safe work, because in the day by day, the assembly works, inspection, repair and to take to pieces of equipments are a constant in the industrial facilities, using a workforce that is very heterogeneous. The road to obtain a good System of Permission to Work will be it of incorporating to the system: the human factors, the responsibility of the administration to the execution, a constant compromising of the workforce to the identification of dangers and evaluation of risks of a work and the implementation of constant auditing. Therefore more than a simple document the Permission for Work should be understood as a key tool in the prevention of accidents.
