The air quality protection is one of the biggest society s contemporaneous concerns. Despite all social-economical benefits from the petroleum, the activities of petroleum industries, as the refining, are activities widely known as polluted ones. The challenge is to get progress with sustainability. One of the most important stages for the environmental management is to know the impacts that these activities cause to the environment trustfully. This dissertation based on this premise focus the necessity to known the environmental impacts of the NOX emissions from petroleum refineries, in the way to get the introduction of a management system possible, that allows to act in the emissions control and reduction. Based on this goal, this study describes the reason to be concerned about the NOX and how to get the emissions estimate through an emission inventory, where President Bernardes Refinery from Cubatão was used as a source to the case study. The study is concluded with an evaluation of the best techniques to reduce the NOX emissions and with a propose for a management model for these polutants emissions control and reduction. According to the environmental legislation, that is becoming more ad more restrictive, the companie must to reach the environmental excellence, in order to forese the futures problems.
