Resumo: The kinetics of sorption of 1-naphthol and 2-naphthol by the unloaded polyurethane foams (PUFs) were found slow, reached equilibrium in few hours and followed a second-order rate equation. The retention of 1-naphthol and 2-naphthol by unloaded foams is consistent with two steps mechanism, the first one that is a fast step related to the surface adsorption of the molecules and, the second one that is the low step related to the migration of the molecules from the membrane surface into the bulk of the polymer. The sorption of naphthols followed Freundlich Isotherms however Langmuir Isotherms model does not show a good correlation. This work studied the test of two methods, one that was a batch method and another method, a continuous one that uses minicolumns with foam. The effects on extraction of naphthols solution like extraction time, initial concentration of solution, solution pH, salt concentration, quantity of foam in contact with solution and agitation velocity were investigated. For the application of a column mode method, the flow that the solution was percolated through the foam minicolumns was also investigated. The results suggest that naphthols are extracted as neutral species and a hydrogen bonding interaction occurs between the naphthols molecules and the surface of the polymer
