Resumo: | This aim of this work of ethnographic nature is to investigate, under the perspective of text genders, teaching materials created and produced by teachers of English acting in state schools. Focus was placed on the use of text genders and reading strategies in the process of the teaching- learning of English as a foreign language, based on Schneuwly & Dolz s (2004) proposal of educational uses of text genres through a sociointeractional perspective. The purpose is to observe whether teachers select teaching texts for their genres, and which are their favored ones. A qualitative naturalistic research methodology which incorporated as research instruments questionnaires and interviews was applied to the materials provided by the teachers participating in the study. Results indicate the need for further attention to self-produced teaching materials, revealed as a common practice in public schools, for they represent the conscious option of a professional who will not be detained by obstacles and whose work, although still far from ideal, is intended to improve the quality of foreign language education. |
