Resumo: | This work evaluates the level of adherence to the excelency criteria of the Malclom Baldrige Award on five hospitalsestablished at Rio de Janeiro city. The evaluation has been developed through means of self assessment models developed by the Baldrige National Quality Program which use the seven excelency criteria proposed by the Baldrige award as a reference, adapted to the characteristics of the researched hospitals. The selection of the Malcolm Baldrige Award, with which the Brazilian PNQ Prêmio Nacional de Qualidade (National Quality Award) is very similar ,is due mostly to the fact that it establishes specific excellency criteria linked to the health care area and also because, it is internationally recognized and knownly effective as an instrument able to promote enterprise efficiency. Based on the reached results it was possible to conclude that the Baldrige award criteria and its self assessment questionaires are adequate tools and and also a refererence to the intended goals. Despite of the reseached hospitals leadership within their sector, results obtained proved to be far from what was expected in most of the criteria which have been analyzed |
