Resumo: It appears that service suppliers have come to play a key role in the oil and gas industry. From small services without so much importance to the core business, to complex operations with high financial and operational risks, the providers are present virtually in all stages of the supply chain, often consuming a significant amount of the companies budget. In terms of representativeness of personnel, they can reach up to 90% of the labor used in some activities. As a result of that, the relationship between the companies and their suppliers has been studied since the late 70's. Traditionally, the contracts took into account only the financial, legal and operational issues, which have been the main objects of dispute between the parties. However, nowadays, due to the deep social, economic and environmental changes in the globalized world, increased the stakeholder s pressures under the operators, with respect to the observance of security, occupational health and environment requirements (HSE), especially after is proved that there is a direct relationship between the qualification of contractors and catastrophic accidents. Thus, the suppliers HSE management has become strategic to the sustainability of companies, and they started to make efforts to monitor its performance. In this sense, the objective of this study is to analyze safety, environment and occupational health aspects in the evaluation process of oil and gas industry service providers, having as a mean of investigation a case study in the company Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (PETROBRAS).
