Resumo: | The literary text is recognized as a value both in and out the Academy; and it is important to bear in mind that much of the literature which is read is translated. The need felt to insist on the literary quality of translated fictional texts led to this thesis goal: to propose the five literary values, as described by Italo Calvino in his work Seis propostas para o próximo milênio, as a frame for literary translation. After the introduction, the first chapter theorizes issues on translation, reading, literary reading, meaning and interpretation. The second chapter introduces the notion of frame with proposals from four theorists: Gideon Toury, André Lefevere, Antoine Berman and Mona Baker. The third chapter describes the values ─ lightness, quickness, exactitude, visibility and multiplicity ─ according to Calvino, and searches them in the works The kite runner, by Khaled Hosseini, and its Brazilian translation O caçador de pipas, by Maria Helena Rouanet. The presence of the values in the works indicates that the first one is a literary text and the second, not just a translation of literature, but a literary translation. It also implies that the values described by Calvino are, sometimes, already used for literary translation, hence this work can contribute to systematize that use. |
