This study aims to discuss the violence and public safety by a research made in the city of Macae. The construction of a public security that has like background the relationship between repression and prevention is essential for the construction of a society less violent. The city of Macaé comes as research material for this study with data from violent causes of mortality and approach the core-making closer to the population through the process of decentralization of some actions. The diagnosis of the municipality, identifying the main causes of mortality, the areas where there is higher prevalence of types of violence, supports the creation of social policies that accordance with social reality and strengthens the process of social participation in development programs and projects.
