Resumo: This research had as objective evaluates the degree of competitiveness of the telecommunications companies in Brazil, through the perception of their executives about products and market, strategic movements and application of the information technology. The research is based in the Project of Research Human and Technological Factors of the competitiveness (Quinteila, 1997). This degree of competitiveness was verified in function of two aspects, the first i[ the researched telecommunications companies are accomplishing the customization of their lines of products and services, and the second if they are using the Information technology as tool to achieve theirs strategies goals, both with the objective of obtaining a maintainable competitive advantage, and to compare their results with the one of the research accomplished by Pine (1993) in the USA. The formulated basic hypotheses, which we intended to corroborate are: The researched companies are changing its competitive strategy; The researched companies are changing its focus in function of the new competitive paradigm, Solid Customization ; The researched companies are using the Information technology, as dilferential strategic, obtaining hke this maintainable competitive advantage. The model of competitiveness developed by Joseph Pine (1994), and the model of Value Chain by Michael Porter (1985), they were used as theoretical referential for this research. The hypotheses were tested in 20 companies with base in two questionnaires, which were used simultaneously in the areas of Marketing, Technology, and Operations by the own researcher. The companies were selected in agreement with its Ioad, importance and origin of its predominant capita .
