Resumo: In 1972, Brazilian artist and designer Aloísio Magalhães (1927-1982) exhibited, in Rio de Janeiro Museum of Modern Arts, the cartemas, then his newest production in visual arts. Praised by audiences at this and following exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, his creation wasn t received with the same enthusiasm by many artists and art critics at the time. If this alone shows an expectation conflict between art and public, further analysis will also show that elements other than artistic have made their contribution to make cartema introduction as well as its author name in official Brazilian art history harder. The present thesis, along with analysing the intricate net of events, influences and motivations amid the trajectory and artistic production of Aloísio Magalhães, aims to reclaim, spread and keep alive, in national art registers, this work that, withstanding any fading effect three decades could have inflicted, goes on powerfully, amazing the eye and cheering the sensibility.
