Resumo: To nominate a fact implies to invest it with significance for and by subjects , making it become a symbolic object. That is the reason why, as it is considered in Discourse Analysis, subject and sense constitute one another mutually. From the matter of nomination, other questions arise, such as the production of illusion of consense , the affiliation to foundation discourses and to knowledge domains The present nomination of the Cape Verdean language as creole affiliates the language imaginary to the ideology that supports the languages domestication, to the linguistic studies that present this domestication scientifically, and also to the colonizing linguistic policies. But this nomination also affiliates the historicity of the language to Cape Verdean speakers resistance memory. This research aims at seeking specifically the junction of a memory of the language(s) in relation to the history that constitutes it (them) in the discourse about the language. From this point I try to understand the History of Cape Verdean language and the nomination given to it, based on a discourseoriented reading of files about the lexicographic knowledge produced on the word creole in the contexts of 18th to 21th centuries and about the sociolinguistic knowledge on the concept creole introduced in the 20th century. This research is part of the History of Linguistic Ideas Project because it deals with the production of the metalinguistic knowledge about the Cape Verdean language from a historical, political and ethical perspective of the knowledge about language.
