The objective of this research project through the use of the screenplay of the movie Cidade de Deus as the corpus and the theoretical presuppositions of Textual Linguistics as a basis is the exposition and analysis of the screenplay genre as an unstable and peculiar discourse genre. The construction of meaning of the screenplay is revealed through scene/action descriptions and the speech of characters, which can be verified through strategies of the theory of reference with special emphasis on direct and indirect anaphora.
