It addresses the issue of the diplomatic applied in the studies of documentary genesis, involving records identification and its production context. It analyses the theoretical and conceptual foundations of contemporary diplomatic as methodological resource in activities of identification, covering documents analysis and recognition processes, as well as the origins and the consolidation of its involved concepts. It indicates theoretical reflections and initiatives taken by the national and international archival community related to concepts and particularities of architectural archives. It analyses the application of the type record identification methodology for treatment of architecture archives, from the second half of century XX in the scope of the Europe and Latin America. It applies the documentary typology identification, through a case study, as organization method of accumulated documentary mass, regarding the architecture projects, components of archive groups, derived from the Amazon University construction project (current Amazon Federal University), in the period of 1970 to 1983, taken into the custody of the Research and Documentation Center of the Architecture and Urbanism College of the Rio de Janeiro Federal University
