This work aims at carrying through a critical reading of Cazuza s songs by means of establishing a dialogue between them and the rupture tradition that characterizes great part of poetics in modern times. Exponent of the Brazilian rock from the 80s, he addresses and brings up to date some aspects of counter culture as well as the romantic ideal of integration between the artist s personal life and his/her production. The dialectic tension between disenchantment and utopian confidence is a constant in his production, in which the affirmation of the self undergoes a constant search of an intersubjective dialogue with the other. Moreover, his songs propose a reflection on some of the historical dilemmas lived by Brazilians, such as the social role of new generations, social inequalities and the nationality issue.
