This study discusses the characterization and the contributions of Italian immigration in the municipality of Anchieta - ES, from the phenomenon called the Great Migration occurred in the second half of the nineteenth century, which handled large contingent of people from Europe toward America. Given the various socioeconomic changes experienced by Brazil and Italy is generated between the same migration flow, which handled thousands of individuals from Italy to Brazil in search of better living conditions. In Brazil's Espírito Santo state constituted one of the destinations of these immigrants, as well as, the Anchieta was constituted as an entry and residence of hundreds of them to this state. Thus the aim of the research is to identify the characteristics of immigration and the contributions left by Italian immigrants that mark today's anchietense people. To achieve the proposed objective outlined a work plan that initially sought to trace theoretical foundations in various areas of knowledge, seeking the formation of a theoretical framework to systematize our thinking about the study of Population Geography, and how the concept of migration. Further, the study was undertaken of Italian immigration in Brazil, and in greater detail in the Holy Spirit, emphasizing the particular form of migration for the Anchieta, the object of study of this work, seeking thereby to identify the contribution of migration to local development from the aspects: economic, cultural, architectural and educational. Among the results, we highlight the database regarding the Italian immigrants contributed in Benavente, then Anchieta and the lifting of contributions left by Italian immigrants that mark today anchietense identity and landscape.
