Resumo: | This present Dissertation – Politics and Economics mercantile in the land of Espírito Santo (1790 to 1821) – has the purpose to present a study about the framework of the captainship of Espírito Santo at the end of the Colonial Period. Confronting information obtained in official sources, quantitative data of the inventories post mortem and Will on the city of Vitória/ES between 1790 and 1821. The survey provided information of people’s life that rose socially even without of incentives from the Portuguese Kingdom for the increase and diversification of production in captainship of Espírito Santo. Throughout public service or arranged marriage and patronize, established between the wealthy people and the well known politicians; the economic elite, directly or indirectly, eventually got an important role in political decisions. Overall, the analysis of the official documents has shown, in the time mentioned, the dependency on slavery labor; consumption of external product such as: wine, spices, fabrics, pottery, among others; intern production of: sugar, rice, beans, corn, banana, cassava, cotton and cotton cloth, prime lamber and a considerable herd cattle. The intern production could supply the local demand as well as participate in the trade within colony, mainly throughout the ports of Rio de Janeiro and Pernambuco. This allow one identifies the captainship of the Espírito Santo as inserted in the system and colonial context regard with the internal supplies in Brazil at that time. |
