Resumo: The Vitoria a Minas Railway (EFVM) - 905 km long, manages 1,819 slope type slides geotechnical asset acrossing the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. Field asset inspections act as a tool to observe and record the characteristic related to condition of the asset, identifying problems and assist in directing the necessary resources to ensure its structural and operational integrity; utilizing the defect detecting principals by featuring Local Asset management program (GA). As defined in existing Maintenance Strategy, geotechnical assets inspections are carried out based on Asset Criticality. Limitation was found in this approach due to inconsistency in defining “Criticality” where evaluation process from each inspector was made according to individual experiences, with no defined methods and procedures. The main objective of this work is to suggest the standardization the criteria for defining the criticality of the 167 geotechnical assets located at kilometers 231 to 383 of the EFVM trunk line obtained from registration and inspection records of these assets, isolation of track with assessment of landslide susceptibility, based on weights and criteria defined by infrastructure specialists of EFVM and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The results obtained for the classification of the criticality of the 5 indicators (soil material, active distance of the track, slope, height and presence of water) chosen by the 3 Infrastructure Specialists of the EFVM were considered very satisfactory and consistent, besides reflected the expectation of the inspector of the section studied. The decrease of the subjectivity in the definition of the criticality of geotechnical type cutting assets with the incorporation of the AHP method contributed in a way to improve the reliability of the diagnosis of criticality.
