Resumo: In recent decades, with demographic changes in the world, there has been an increase in the number of older workers who face various challenges, including the challenge of preparing for and entering retirement. The objective is to analyze the influence of socio-cognitive variables of the Career Self-Management Model applied to retirement planning with older workers. This is a research with a quantitative approach carried out using the survey method. For data collection, different scales were used to assess the following constructs: self-efficacy for retirement planning, perceived social support, perception of ageism and retirement planning. In this process, the Self-Efficacy Scale For Retirement Planning (Penn & Lent, 2021) was translated into the Brazilian context. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The analyzes used were divided into two stages, the first being aimed at adapting and validating the instrument through quantitative techniques, such as confirmatory and multigroup factor analysis, and omega precision coefficient. The second stage examined the theoretical model and the relationships between variables based on correlation tests, network analysis and path analysis. 292 older Brazilian workers participated in the sample, 60.3% women and 39.7% men, with a mean age of 54.6 years (SD=7.8 years). The results confirm the expected two-dimensional structure of the Self-Efficacy Scale for Retirement Planning (ASPS), with the subscales of financial and time self-efficacy. The scale showed configural, metric, and scalar invariance for different demographic groups. In addition, the results point to a robust set of evidence of external validity, in which there was a significant association between specific self-efficacy with the antecedent and consequent constructs measured. Regarding predictive aspects, it was found that self-efficacy expectations are fundamental for engaging in retirement preparation behaviors, and may be influenced by family support and the way individuals perceive aging in the context of work. It is hoped, with this study, to favor the understanding of the influence of socio-cognitive and contextual variables on career adaptive behavior, such as planning for retirement. Suggestions for further research are discussed.
