Capoeira e eficácia simbólica : apontamentos teóricos e aportes empíricos

This dissertation investigates the process of construction of power relations in the context of capoeira, a kind of Brazilian’s culture manifestation, from the following guiding questions: How are constructed power relations inside the context of capoeira ? What is the importance of the figure of capoeira master in this context? How the relationships of prestige and social status of capoeira master are built between the society/community of capoeira? The answers, or better, the problematizations between this questions, indicates the existence of a symbolic effectiveness of capoeira master’s figure, which is held from and through his speeches, his actions and representations of his figure and his title to the society. The discussions and debates of this research are bolstered in relations between capoeira, anthropology and culture, with the research methodology of fieldwork ethnographic. Therefore, it was chosen a capoeira group for conducting interviews with teachers and masters of capoeira, plus a documentary analysis and systematic observations of capoeira, official events, meetings and gatherings among practitioners of the investigated capoeira group. During the survey, it was noticed that, above the figure of the master of capoeira, a symbolic effectiveness is built and maintained through their experience in the practice of capoeira, his technical body performance (his " style " of play), his knowledge about historical and social aspects of capoeira, as well as the embodiment of all these aspects through his discourse. Furthermore, it was noted that the capoeira master configures the one with best capacity to perform the duties of governor in the context of capoeira, but this capacity is constantly subjected to a verification principle for their "governed" (disciples of capoeira in general) and the rest of society/community of capoeira
