Resumo: This paper analyzes the Multidisciplinary Residency Program in Health, in order to identify how the Multidisciplinary Residency Program in Health, developed by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health since 2005, has become a proposal for SUS professional education policy. Documentary research was carried out with content analysis that enabled configure the National Policy of Education in Health, in the training area of higher education, specifically in postgraduate courses, in which multidisciplinary Residences is situated.. The Health System (SUS) legislation determines the professional education policy guidelines for health care education based on the integration of teaching / service. They are center lines that are highlighted within the process of Multidisciplinary Residency Programs in Health education policy. It was found that there was, in the first half of the 2000s, the emergence of numerous actors (residents, coordinators, and tutors forums) who were present in the struggle for the systematization of the National Committee of Multidisciplinary Residency in Health. These actors were al so present in the dispute for multidisciplinary Residences recognition, from the year 2005 on. There is a field that puts interests at stake and leads the definition of the legal basis for the institutionalization of the Program. Corporatist positions polarize and gain strength going against the assumptions of the professional health profile. At the same time, it can be observed the emptying of Residences in basic health care as well as the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education movement to implement the multidisciplinary Residences in Federal University Hospitals, targeting especially the high complexity services. Risks can be observed in the conformation of health care education focusing on the “task doing”. Against the precarious work context undermines the presence of residents to cover the deficit of workers in health institutions, making necessary an intense defense and affirmation of residents in training as professional and non-professional service. Given this situation, it is questioned the role of the multidisciplinary Residences in transforming the mode to produce health and professional education. On the other hand, the observation of various aspects linked to residence has also demonstrated that paradoxically they have been or may be also an important resistance stronghold to submission of the new contours that have been designed in the SUS itself. And despite of this context, the Residences have been important as qualifying services and professionals. There is a consensus concerning the importance of residents and tutors attendance in services, through their questioning it is possible to break with conservative practices, since the presence of residents in multidisciplinary teams can take this confrontation.
