The IEEE 802.16 standard aims to define a metropolitan wireless broadband access network technology. It introduces several advantages, including the support for QoS at the MAC layer. To ensure a good quality of service to different kinds of applications, it should be defined an algorithm in order to efficiently distribute resources among the connections. Considering the dynamic and unpredictable nature of the current converging network, this work proposes a new approach, based on fuzzy logic, to distribute resources in the downlink (DL) channel as an alternative to traditional analytical solutions. Compared to the analytical modeling, the fuzzy approach provides greater flexibility and general solutions due to its low specificity and the possibility to include ad-hoc decisions
