Resumo: Once in every interaction there is the desire to build a favorable image of themselves towards other (Goffman, 1967), interviews can be seen as spaces of confrontations, since it is impossible to control the image that one builds of the other. Therefore, in this paper, we make a discursive-pragmatic analysis of printed interviews, based on the concept of face, elaborated by Goffman (1967); the theory of politeness by Brown and Levinson (1987) and the notion of discourse topic as a principle of textual-discursive organization, Koch (1992), Jubran (1992) and Lins (2008). Thus, it is focused the context of the verbal interaction in interviews carried out by the newspaper A Gazeta(published in 2004,2006 and 2008) with personalities from the local or national political scenario. In the interviews, it is seen how threatening acts to the positive and negative faces happen in the relationship between interviewer-interviewee and which politeness strategies they use to save and preserve their own face focusing on the management of the discourse topic, considering that the face threatening acts can be minimized using strategies of manipulation strategies. The main questions that conducted this study are: Is the need of building positive face a sine qua non condition for social harmony? Is the manipulation of the topic as a strategy to preserve the face a characteristic of the genre Interview? In this way, this research becomes relevant for language studies once reflects issues in vogue and much discussed by the academy lately, however separately: manipulation of the discourse topic in the context of Textual Linguistics, and face preservation within the Pragmatics.
