Resumo: The present study had its motivation in research conducted at the Núcleo de Pesquisas em Linguagens (NPL) of the Federal University of Espirito Santo, coordinated by Professor Dr. Lucia Helena Peyroton da Rocha, which focuses on issues related to transitivity, particularly in various genres (comic strips, cartoons, songs, advertisements and headlines). This research analyzes collected articles of opinion of the newspaper "Gazeta" the city of Vitoria - ES, published between March and April 2015, from the proposition of Transitivity Parameters of Hopper and Thompson (1980). The US officialdom, especially studies on transitivity (Givón, 2001; Hopper; Thompson, 1980 and Thompson; Hopper, 2001) were used as a theoretical basis for this research. With a view to identifying linguistic characteristics that relate to pragmatic motivations language users, we demonstrate through the measurement of transitive sentences in opinion articles, as this phenomenon is linked to the speaker's intentions in building your speech. Identifying some of these relationships we are observed in our study, such as the fact that the speaker articulates his speech with higher transitivity sentences when the treaty subject is human than when the treaty issue is not human. Moreover, it was also observed that the pragmatic relations involving the speech influence the transitivity phenomenon. This research contributes to the development of the discussions around the transitivity in the functionalist perspective of language, showing how this phenomenon occurs in gender opinion piece.
