Resumo: For bathing, we understand the quality of water destined for primary contact recreation, which is understood as a direct contact for significant time with water where opportunity ingesting appreciable amounts. To this end it has the general objective of evaluating bathing conditions in the dam of Santa Cruz de Apodi / RN, based on the bathing Index (IB) and the Water Quality Index (IQA) with a view to population welfare. Being specific diagnose the real environmental situation of the proposed area; detect possible risks to the health of bathers, as well as proposing the actions of public management information measures and guidance to people about the practice of preservation of water resources. It is a survey based on the resolutions of the National Environmental Council - CONAMA 274/2000, 357/2005 for freshwater class 2. The survey was conducted in the municipality of Apodi, specifically in the dam of Santa Cruz, being selected seven points for collections that covered the conducive to bathing places. All analyzes performed in the laboratory met the specifications APHA (2005) and the tabulated data and entered into an electronic spreadsheet in Excel with indications the classification of waters. About IB ranks the point 05 as a place "inappropriate" for swimming to present the six points analyzed 02 out of the standards established by Resolution and as local "own" to spas purposes the points 01, 02, 03, 04, 06 and 07. The IQA although when analyzed individually their indicators: temperature, pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen (OD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (DBO), nitrogen, phosphorus, Total Dissolved Solids (SDT) and coliforms thermotolerant the latter showed significant changes in point 03 e 05 still being considered water "GOOD" quality of its classification as much of their analysis were satisfactory in the analyzed points. Based on the above the water of the dam of Santa Cruz is conducive for swimming, but being subject to significant changes in water quality by the way that people enjoy the place
