Resumo: The pyroligneous extract (EP) is a product obtained from the condensation of the smoke produced by the combustion of different types of wood, this extract has been widely used as fertilizer. The present work was divided in two experiments and had as objectives to analyze the influence of the EP in the community of phytoplankton and zooplankton through qualitative and quantitative analyzes and Vibrio ssp. in the cultivation of Penaeus vannamei, besides verifying possible changes in the water quality of the ponds used in the research and in the productive performance of the shrimp during the period of cultivation. In the first experiment, water samples were collected in three ponds with application of the pyroligneous extract (CEP) and for comparison water samples were collected from three ponds without the presence of the extract (SEP) and the supply channel. There were no significant differences in the quality and quantity of plankton between CEP and SEP ponds, however, significance (p <0.05) was observed in the phytoplankton density among of the ponds samples compared to the supply channel for the cyanophyta Geitlerinema sp. for zooplankton, no differences were found between all the collection sites. In the case of Vibrio ssp. the presence of this microorganism was not detected in any of the analyzed samples. In the second experiment, water analysis were performed in the CEP and SEP ponds, differences (p<0.05) were found for the following water quality parameters: dissolved oxygen, pH, total alkalinity, total hardness, magnesium and silica, despite this, the values found were within the recommended range for shrimp cultivation. Regarding the productive performance of the shrimps, no differences were verified between the experimental ponds. Despite some contrasts mainly in the parameters of water quality, it is not possible to affirm that the use of pyroligenous extract was beneficial to the cultivation of Penaeus vannamei. .
