The Hygiene of the hands after being recognized and recommended since 1846, as a mandatory practice for healthcare professionals to reduce infections. The objective of this study was to analyze how practices of thorough hand hygiene by the health professionals of public hospitals in Piauí and to identify the main factors that interfere in their non adherence. This is a descriptive and observational study, whose data collection is carried out through the application of semi-structured questionnaires to 61 health professionals, approaching knowledge about the respect of hand hygiene based on the recommendations of the National Agency of Sanitary Surveillance. In the profile prevailed female (65.6%), with a mean of 37.2 years (88.1%) working in the Intensive Care Unit. About the knowledge of the technique, 68.9% received some training, while 31.1% did not know how to do the technique. Of the professionals questioned, 91.8% reported that an institution has alcoholic preparations. In addition, 34.5% correctly stated to be 20 seconds the minimum destruction time to destroy the microorganisms. When observed, 63.94% of professionals do not use any type of material for contact as surfaces and objects for the patient. In the observation the researcher found that none of the technicians performed a correct technique. When questioned, 54.2% answered that they were not performed correctly due to overactivity and insufficient rhythm, 33.2% due to lack of priority of the institution regarding the procedure and 13.6%. The case study with health professionals and theoretical knowledge about a practice of hand hygiene, there is also a review for the correct execution of the technique, being an adoption of hospital measures with the support of the Hospialar Infection Control Commission, Nucleus Patient Safety and the involvement of all health care professionals who promote structural and behavioral changes to increase adherence. |
