Resumo: The purpose of this study is to investigate the process of institutionalizing the practice of Social Responsibility in the Companhia de Água e Esgoto do Ceará (CAGECE) with the parameter under Institutional Approach to the vision of Tolbert and Zucker (1998) shows that the process is made up of three phases: habitualization, objectivation and sedimentation. For each of the stages were listed specific factors representative. The research is methodologically structured as a kind of search qualitative, quantitative, for the processing of the data; exploratory-descriptive, about the purposes, and bibliographic and as field research, as the means and has been realize by case study. It was applied questionnaire, structured by closed questions, with answers both within the Likert scale, as in the prospect of gradation of importance. The proposed instrument, which can be used in other studies since adapted, considered the issues advocated by the Ethos Institute of Business and Social Responsibility, compatible for analysis in question, and outside collaborators applied to direct the company's blended in Fortaleza, capital of the state of Ceara. The results were analyzed and presented graphically by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The research enabled the lifting of the factors for each phase of the proposed model for analysis. Thus, it became possible to monitor the internal adjustments, and the perceived externally, related to institutionalize the practice of Social Responsibility. The results show the recognition of the company's performance in the social field, and his experience within the three stages of the process.
