Resumo: Due to the need to know the economic and energetic viabililty of castor (Ricimus communis) for the State of Ceará, one of the main producers of oil seed in Northeast of Brazil, the present work has been developed aiming to elaborate economic and energetic balance of castor production for obtaining the biodiesel in Ceará State. Simultaneously, it was analysed the castor producers profile in the social, personal and organizational. In assition the technological level of the same. The data were collectes in Boa Viagem, Tauá and Pedra Branca municipalities. Secondary data were tomeasure obtained from research institutions. Primary data for characterizing the social economic profile of castor producers age, marital status, education level, living conditions, acess to technical assistance, participation in social organizations use of recommended techniques were considered. In for profit analysis, income and production cost per hectare of castor in selected municipalities were considered. The main results of the researchy of the were the high percentage of castor producers are men, married, with low level of shooling, having acess to technical assistance, consider by more that 50% of them as meium or low quality, high participation in associations, and acess to credit facilities. It also observed that on tehe average, 12,91% the interviewed farmers are using more than 80% of the recommended techniques. The castor production in all the three selected municipalities is economically feafible (profitable), without considering the cost related to family labor. Energy production e consumption ratio of 1,52 indicates that the system for of energy spent on producing castor, biodiesel generates 1,52 unit of energy.
