Resumo: Considering the need for an intervention consistent with what is thought and done today in the area of health in its various areas and places, it is necessary to draw a close look at the initial training of the professional and teacher of Physical Education. This study aimed to investigate how the training in Collective Health is taking place within the Physical Education Undergraduate courses of the Universities of Fortaleza CE. We sought to understand what teachers know about this area and their perception of health intervention in this professional category, identify the existence of training resources that work on this subject in undergraduate and know how teachers perceive the initial training that is put today. For this, a qualitative, descriptive and cross sectional study was conducted with 17 teachers (UNIFOR (7); UECE (6); UFC (4)). They were selected according to the criteria of being graduated in Physical Education, have Graduate (stricto or lato sensu) in the area of Collective Health or similar, have been or have already worked with the subject through disciplines, research groups, extension projects or stages. To obtain the information, semi structured interviews were conducted guided by a previous script composed of nine basic questions. The analysis of the information was made by the method of Content Analysis Categorical Analysis, seeking to infer the meanings unveiled from the teachers' statements. Several categories and subcategories emerged from this process, which are organized into three major themes (Knowledge and relations between Physical Education and Collective Health; Training in and for Collective Health; The current scenario of training in Collective Health limitations, potentialities and future perspectives) As a result, it is clear that teachers have knowledge consistent with what has been discussing about Collective Health today and understand the role of Physical Education within this context. However, Collective Health is an area that is still little explored in some of the undergraduate courses investigated. Despite these problems, there is today a movement of openness in these courses to approach the theme in a more qualified way. Thus, it is envisaged a more adequate training for the future professional and teacher who will intervene in health, be it with diverse populations and in different practice scenarios.
