Resumo: This study aims to evaluate the practices of on-site assessments of the libraries of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Ceará (IFCE) considering the legislation of the National Higher Education Assessment System (SINAES). The evaluative perspective applied to this work was based on Lejano (2012) and his experiential method, in the search to know the theory that emerges from practice. A case study was carried out by intentional sampling, using as criteria the libraries that have already undergone the evaluation using the new instruments. We opted for a qualitative methodology, considering documental, bibliographic and field research as the main research procedures, in which semi-structured interviews are used for data collection. To analyze the data obtained, Bardin's content analysis was used. The research revealed that in some points the practice met the theory, and in others it did not, especially when it came to new criteria for evaluation such as specialized educational assistance and innovative resources, and on the verification of basic and complementary bibliographies of undergraduate courses.
