Resumo: |
This study verified the role of development banks in unattractive areas to private banks and their importance as a government instrument for economic growth. Therefore, the performance of Banco do Nordeste as a regional development bank based on the National Policy for Regional Development (PNDR) was analyzed. This study drew upon panel data estimation with fixed effects to test the relationship between investments from the Banco do Nordeste and the average growth rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita at different geographical levels, including municipalities and microregions. The results showed that the impact of the investments provided by Banco do Nordeste from 2010 to 2019 was positive in the municipalities of dynamic and stagnated typology. The impact is relevant in the Northeast and the coverage area of the Superintendency for the Development of the Northeast (SUDENE), thereby reinforcing the role of a development bank in regions lacking medium and long-term investments. |
