Resumo: |
The mam purpose of this paper is to measure the average productive technical efficiency of industry in Brazil and in the following Brazilian states: Ceará, Bahia and Pemambuco by using data from the 1985 industrial census with three digits of sectorial disaggregation. Efficiency is defined as the ratio between the actual and pontential output, considering that the measurement of efficiency is based on estimating deterministic frontier production functions. Therefore, the industrial sectors in Brazil, Ceará, Bahia and Pemambuco were divided into two large groups: metallic and non-metallic. The research pointed out the existence of high rates of productive inefficiency among the different sectors from the same group in Ceará, Bahia, Pemambuco and Brazil as a whole. As a result, it' s become extremely necessary the need of an industrial policy so that the leveI of sectorial efficiency would increase. Besides, the most and least efficient sectors are analyzed acording to their participation in their groups (metallic and non-metallic) through a number of variables which describe the industrial structure. |
