Resumo: The border region of MERCOSUR is a space of vast migratory movements that, motivated by diverse motives, induce the migrants to leave their countries of origin in search of new perspectives in the country of another. The free movement of persons between States Parties presupposes the formulation of policies that constitute a legitimate scenario for mobility to take place in a recognized manner. The health professionals are part of this migratory context with the purpose of exercising their professional, academic or to perfect themselves. The objective of the present study was to investigate the immigration of health professionals from the MERCOSUR States Parties to Brazil in accordance with the legislation. It was a documentary research, qualitative and exploratory-descriptive. The documents used came from the States Parties, available on the official MERCOSUR website, published in 26 years (1991 to 2016). Brazilian documents were added, resulting from the previous standards, available on official websites in Brazil. The choice of the material to be investigated was guided by the thematic content analysis methodology. The documents were initially selected using keywords through a filter applied to spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, followed by a brief reading of the titles, excluding those whose content was not related to the topic in question. The documents were downloaded and submitted to thematic content analysis. Of the 3318 official documents published during the period, 90 MERCOSUR documents were selected and 46 Brazilian official documents were added to the study. In order to develop the research topic, it was necessary initially to understand the formation of MERCOSUR in order to appropriate the norms related to the migration process and to point out that the issue in question did not characterize an initial concern for the Bloc as well as for Brazil . MERCOSUR health professionals, who intend to work in Brazilian territory, must respect the norms common to immigrants, with the possibility of residence permits for those who wish to work in research, teaching or academic extension; as well as for study or work. However, in Brazil, it was found that only medical professionals had consented to immigration in a more accessible way, through specific legislation.
