Resumo: The Sobral Medicine Course at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) has been graduating doctors in the interior of the state of Ceará for 19 years, as a result of the internalization of this Federal Institution of Higher Education process, which began in 2001. Currently, the course has 456 academics in training and has graduated 720 students until December 2020. Given the above, considering the transforming role of the university in the society in which it is inserted, the research aims to analyze the contributions of a Medical Course of the UFC, in the levels of primary, secondary and tertiary health care, in Sobral (North town in Ceará) from 2009 to 2019). This is a research of an applied nature, with a descriptive study, which adopts as a methodological strategy a qualitative and quantitative approach, anchored in field research and documentary research. As a data collection technique, document analysis is used, with the application of questionnaires and interviews with the selected participants in the research universe. The analysis of the data obtained and the discussion of the results of the study take place under the content analysis and the application of descriptive statistics methods, respectively. The analysis method designed for research made it possible to achieve the specific objectives established in the study. The results of the primary data reveal the establishment of 105 doctors in Sobral and the presence of doctors working in medical specialties that had never been seen before in the northern region of Ceará. When analyzing secondary data, of the 646 graduates trained until 2019, it identifies 355 professionals who have already provided care in the municipality from 2007 to 2019 at the three levels of health care and another 192 doctors currently serving in the public municipal health facilities and hospital units. The information gathered in this research shows the contribution of the UFC Medical Course to the health of Sobral, through the medical care of graduates trained from IFES in all health facilities in the municipality, whether in primary, secondary or tertiary care, in addition to significant changes in the region in higher education, undergraduate and graduate, approved by the UFC. Despite the successful results presented in the study, it is observed that the Sobral Medicine Course needs a close look at the top management of IFES. This attention is essential to face the new challenges that arise in the training of its future doctors in the interior of the state of Ceará, according to those of other public medical schoolsacross the country.
