The large number of audio-visual adaptations of superhero comic books represents an interesting process of intersemiotic translation in the transmutation of the static platform of comics to the moving language of screens. Important market partnerships produce many adaptations, such as some series available on the streaming platform Netflix, that are based on Marvel comic books. According to Nord (1991), the process of retextualization within the functionalist perspective of translation consists of an adaptation process of translation to the context of the arrival product. Thus, it can be said that there are mechanisms of retextualization in the intersemiotic translations of comic books, because in these audiovisual productions there are themes that are not part of the comic original narratives. This research intends to analyze how the retextualization process occurred in some episodes of the series DareDevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, all produced by Netflix and based on characters from Marvel Comics. |
