Resumo: |
The main purpose of this dissertation is to evaluate the production of green hydrogen in Ceará from different water sources using system dynamics. The state of Ceará is located in a semi arid region of Brazil and, as a result, suffers from a constant shortage of water. Therefore, the water supply source for a green hydrogen hub in Ceará must be well planned, as it may not be sustainable in the long run. System dynamics is the approach used to achieve the objective of this thesis. Interviews, bibliographic research, and document analysis were used as data collection tools. The Causal Loop Diagram and the Stocks and Flows Diagram, typical tools of the approach, were used to achieve the overall objective. The main results show that reuse water is the most viable source of water supply, considering availability and waste management, and that the most important variable in the production of green hydrogen is the cooling technology of the green hydrogen production system. The paper argues that the preferred scenario of desalination may not be sustainable in the long term due to the discharge of brine into the sea, which causes disturbances in the marine biota, and that if the alternative scenario is selected, where the green hydrogen hub is supplied only with reuse water, there are possibilities to use the sludge as an input for other production processes. |
