Resumo: The research here reported had the objective of evaluating the distributive effect caused by the policy of implementation of quotes instituted by law 12.711 / 12 in the performance of students of the courses of Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Engineering of Mechanical Production, of the Technology Center of the Federal University of Ceará. The study was carried out through the investigation of the differentiated performance between quota and non-quota students, who entered in the years 2014 and 2015 (quota period), compared to those who started their courses in 2011 and 2012 (before the quotas), being the performance measure used the IRA - Academic Performance Index. Econometric analyzes were performed whose results show that the performance of the quota students was generally lower than the students of the previous period (2011/12), with statistical significance in three of the six courses surveyed (Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Production Engineering). On the other hand, the performance results of the non-quota students were higher than those of the students of 2011/12, with statistical significance in two courses (Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering). Therefore, the net effect of this affirmative action policy was not to increase or decrease the average performance of students in the previous period.
