Resumo: The reduction of leakages in water distribution networks is a constant concern of water utilities, especially in regions affected by drought, as is the case in the Northeastern semi-arid region. The present dissertation took care to model computationally the effects of the pressure reduction in reducing the leakage of the water distribution network of Caicó, located in the Drought Polygon. To carry out the simulation, a new command “Determination of loss reduction” was developed, associated with the UFC2 software. Pressure reducing valves were installed in the reservoir outlet piping, when the pressure set at the valve outlet simulated three different drought situations: Moderate Drought, Intense Drought and Severe Drought - where the pressure in the lowest pressure node was limited, respectively, at 10 mca, 5 mca and 1 mca. After performing the modeling in the three drought situations, the new command developed obtained the total savings and the savings percentage generated as output data for each drought situation. The modeling results showed that the successive decrease in pressure in the same distribution network zone through the installation of the pressure reducing valve led to increasing values of the total economy and the economy percentage. The situation of Severe Drought, in which the pressure was limited to 1 mca, was the one that presented the highest values of total savings and the percentage of savings, with the highest value for total savings obtained being 66.49 m³ and the highest value for saving percentage of 3.36%. It was also observed that the increase in the exponent of leakage N1 led to higher values of total savings and percentage savings. Finally, it was concluded that with the new command "Determination of loss reduction" associated with UFC2 it was possible to model the effects of pressure reduction in loss reduction in a real water distribution network, having been possible to obtain the total savings and the percentage savings after inserting pressure reducing valves.
