Resumo: |
Cryptocurrency prices fell sharply after OMS’ declaration about the covid-19 pandemic, in March 2020. Despite recovering value in the course of the pandemic, the fact demonstrated that, like fiat currencies, cryptocurrencies are vulnerable to socioeconomics global dynamics. In addition, the absence of specific regulations renders juridical insecurity to this business. Then, the objective of this work is to analyze cryptocurrencies as a means of payment in Brazil, comparing perspectives raised in 2018 with the cryptoeconomy’s panorama in 2020, discussing it under the logic of the “black swan”. It’s a descriptive research, with a quali-quantitative approach and hypothetical-deductive method, whith data collected from questionnaires, and from the Coinmap.org and CoinMarketCap.com. It was found that cryptocurrencies haven’t yet consolidated as a means of exchange in Brazil because their low liquidity, large value fluctuations, and absence of regulations, generate uncertainty about their functions as currency. So, are beening treated like investment, and functioning as crypto-assets. |
