Resumo: Maceió Stream, located in Fortaleza, Ceará, has become one of the main symbols of survival, leisure, housing, and identity reference in the history of the great Mucuripe. The intensification of the touristification process at the end of the 20th century boosted urban, environmental, legal, and social changes that were emerging in the locality, promoting profound changes in the landscape, customs, and natural assets. The understanding of Maceió Stream as an urban environmental heritage gave rise to other perspectives and directions regarding the sources, and the relationship between heritage, environment, city, and memory. The problematization of these elements made it possible to deepen the discussions about the area around the creek, the community's relationship with Maceió, the conflicts and disputes regarding the environment, the city, and other identity references close to the edge of the great Mucuripe. The research used a methodological approach of crisscrossing periodical sources from the big and small press, laws, bills, decrees, pamphlets, interviews, and official documents referring to urban organization and city planning. Thus, the discussions developed throughout the dissertation draw attention to the urgency of analyzing the issue of heritage on the coast of Fortaleza, the consequences of urban and environmental policies implemented in favor of a certain model of the city on the residents of the great Mucuripe and natural assets similar to Maceió Stream, as well as the ways that Ceará has been dealing with the preservation of green areas with tourist potential. The research was developed within the scope of the Heritage and Memory Studies and Research Group (GEPPM).
