The linear production model based on the “extract-produce-discard” process has been replaced in companies by a new circular business model. This allows reducing the environmental impact and generating value from waste, enabling the opening of a new path for sustainability. Like this, in search of sustainable practices for corporate sustainability, the managers of these companies suffer tensions, at different levels, in processes of change and within a temporal and spatial context. In this sense, this work aims to analyze the paradoxical tensions in corporate sustainability alluding to the practice of the sustainable business model of a cement company towards the circular economy, in the light of the sustainable business model of Bocken et al. (2014) and tensions under the theoretical lens of Hahn et al. (2015), presented through a conceptual framework contemplating propositions of value creation and delivery of value and value capture. That analyze, concretizes up from the demonstration of the characteristics of the cement company's process aligned with strategies for the circular economy; description of the characteristics of the cement company's sustainable business model, and presentation of the paradoxical tensions in corporate sustainability and its management strategies associated with the sustainable business model in the cement company. The company object of this study is a cement company, a joint venture multinational of European origin, large and significant representation in the economy your region, whose strategies address for The corporate sustainability. The present research was characterized as qualitative in nature as to the approach, applied in nature, with an exploratory and descriptive purpose. As for the procedures, it is classified as a case study. Content analysis was used to infer the interviews with 32 internal and external stakeholders. The survey results show that the cement company has a sustainable business model under development and that its managers suffer tensions, however, they use strategies to manage them. Furthermore, it was found that the company makes great efforts in the archetypes "Maximizing the efficiency of materials and energy" and "creating value from waste". The results contribute to understand the importance of the performance of the cement company with technologies for EC and SBM, in addition to realizing the importance of the role of this sector in relation to the sector's efforts to combat climate change, mainly from the mitigation of the carbon generated in the manufacture of cement. |
