Resumo: Carbon monoxide is a small molecule view for years only as a poisonous substance, without any major role in the human body. But in recent years this view has changed dramatically with the publication of numerous scientific studies demonstrating the participation of this gas in various biological events with bactericidal, anti-inflammatory, neurotransmitter, protective of cardiac cells action, reducing rejection of transplanted organs and others. These important physiological roles played by carbon monoxide led scientists to develop systems that were capable of controllably releasing CO under physiological conditions, since the treatment of diseases by direct inhalation of the gas it is not very safe and it is technically complicated. These new molecules have been called corms ("carbon monoxide releasing molecule"), CO-releasing molecules. Among the corms synthesized to date, the CORM-3 and CORM-A1 were the most promising and these compounds have been published dozens of scientific articles with numerous tests of biological activity, which triggered a search for new CO-releasing compounds, able to release the gas in a controlled manner and under different conditions such as pH and light. The search for new CO-releasing that are efficient and controlled, is necessary and important as it allows the targeting of new applications. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to identify and develop systems that are best releasers under thermal conditions, application of light and pH change. For this purpose, this study was synthesized and characterized candidate compounds to act as corms, based on different systems to evaluate the release induced thermally and photochemical, especially exploiting the dependence of photo releasing with the wavelength of irradiation.
