Resumo: The main element that restricts the human occupation in the semiarid of Ceará is the water shortage, once the pluvial precipitation in the region its low and irregular, concentrating in a few months of the year, and presenting high taxes of evaporation. This situation shows several social and economic problems in the region, even contributing for the rural exodus. Along the historical occupation of the semiarid of Ceará, frequent interventions occurred from the State by building dams, as a way to favor the occupation of these regions which suffered with water shortage. The study area of the present work is the catchment basin of the Banabuiú´s dam, also called of Arrojado Lisboa. The dam its located in the municipality of Banabuiú, in the East Center sector of the State of Ceará, is the third largest reservoir in the state. The catchment basin, on its totality comprehends several municipalities, however the focus of the study was to work it within the municipal boundary of Banabuiu. The construction of this reservoir contributed to the municipality of Banabuiú presenting a high water availability, compared to other municipalities in the region. The present work carried out a Geoenvironmental Zoning of the Catchment Basin of Banabuiú´s dam, in view of the low water supply that it currently presents, it is found in one of the smallest quotas. According with Rodriguez and Silva (2016), the geo-environmental zoning is directed to delimit the geoenvironmental unities resulting from the interaction between the elements and the natural processes of a territory. Zoning is seen as an instrument that can guarantee the rationality in the occupation of the space and subsidize the elaboration of strategies of regional planning and sustainable development. The present work used the Geoecology of the Landscape as basis for the environmental planning, because it is an integrative methodology, using the landscape as a unity of analyses. According to the authors, the landscape is a dialectic unity and a complete total or a whole, and according with the nature of its change and transformation, being evaluated in several dimensions.
