Resumo: This study has as objective to evaluate the effectiveness of IFCE’s (Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Ceara) Sports and Leisure Program – at Fortaleza campus – as perceived by the heads of the course, teachers, students and former students concerning teaching methods, pedagogy, teachers’ performance, structural conditions (existence of practical classes, facility structures for classes and library) and labor market access. We collected random samples of 102 students (73% from the students population), 15 former students (75% from former students population), 19 teachers (86% from teachers population) and 2 heads from the Sports and Leisure Management program. To the samples, we applied a questionnaire consisting of open questions which varied according to the respondent interviewee category and closed questions contained an evaluating scale with 15 items measured with a Likert scale. The metric analysis of the results of the scale application has indicated that the use of this instrument to the samples was effective to evaluate the program. The factor analyses of the evaluation scale, with the Principal Component methodology and VARIMAX rotation, extracted 4 factors referring to 4 evaluated dimensions and the evaluating scale presented content validity in the samples. The comparison between the grade averages and the variation indicates that the samples consists of a homogenous group, respondents did not reveal differences due to the categories. The total average was 4.6; 4.4 concerning teaching methods, pedagogy and teachers performance; 5.4 concerning the existence of practical classes and facility structures of classes; 4.8 concerning the library; and 5.3 concerning labor market access. In relation to the labor market, at least 75% of the sample had an average of 3.3. The qualitative analysis of the questionnaire coincides with what has been verified quantitatively with the evaluating scale. In relation to the labor market perspective for the program, both students and former students are disappointed, for their profession is not well defined, they are even confused with physical educators. Opportunities in the work market are reserved for well-known and consolidated courses. It can be conclude that the program should be radically restructured.
