Resumo: This study aims to realize a systematic review of the literature on informal work in Brazil and the Individual Micro Entrepreneur Program to analyze aspects of informal economy and to identify if the program can contribute to mitigate this type of economy. For this, it is used the database of the virtual library of the periodical portal, the coordination of higher education personnel (CAPES) and Scielo. Ten descriptors are used, namely: Informality, Job Market, Individual Micro Entrepreneur, Microenterprise, Employment, Informal Employment, Entrepreneur, Formal Employment, Tax and Labor. The cataloged sample consists of 121 articles, being 50 in the CAPES Periodical and 71 in the Scielo, with 21 articles involving the theme to be studied. Among these 21 articles, 33% have used the descriptive analysis method, 10% exploratory analysis, 5% evaluative analysis, 24% empirical analysis and 48% used econometric methods. The results show that, despite several studies over the last 20 years, there is still no work that delves into the subject, being necessary more analysis (qualitative and quantitative) to study informality and the effects of the MEI on informality, occupation and income. Therefore, more attention is needed to the theme, since it is a reality in the social environment, and this study is a reference for future decision-making in the face of the problem of informality.
