Introduction. The first steps towards the founding of the Medicine school in Fortaleza, it is necessary to demonstrate in detail the entire historical trajectory and the processes involved in its installation, in order to know the struggles, victories, development process and consolidation of medical education at the Federal University of Ceará, especially in the city of Fortaleza, given its genesis in this city. Aim. Discuss the process of establishing a medical school in Fortaleza-CE. Methodology. Exploratory-descriptive study with a qualitative approach, of a historical nature. It was carried out in the municipality of Fortaleza, capital of the State of Ceará, from July 2022 to December 2022. Official documents from the federal government, DOU and the collection of the State Library of Ceará were used. Results and discussion. It was noticed that the Medicine School at the Federal University of Ceará emerged from political achievements and social and health needs of the population. The trajectory of its genesis demonstrates the true involvement of professors, coordinators and government officials for its establishment, from conception to recognition of the course. Conclusion. It was noted how the Medicine School of the UFC brought great progress to the local society, both for health in general and in economic and social aspects, in particular due to the increase in the supply of doctors and improvement in the qualification of these and others.
