Mineral and organic fertilizers constitute as the main nitrogen sources to the muskmelon, however, there is little information about the interaction between them in soil. Nitrogen fractionation is an important tool to understand this element dynamic in soil and the soil fractions contribution to the plant nitrogen availability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mineral and organic fertilization effects in the soil nitrogen forms and in the muskmelon fruit yield. The experiment was carried out at the Embrapa Tropical Agroindustry experimental field, located in Pacajus, in soil classified as Ultisol. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design in a split plots arrangement, with the fertilizer application as main treatment (mineral fertilizer, cattle manure, cattle manure + mineral fertilizer, poultry litter and poultry litter + mineral fertilizer), soil samplings as subplots (before seedlings planting, early flowering, early fructification, fruit growing and fruit harvest) and four replications. In each soil sampling, samples were collected at the subplots in 0-20 cm depth. Whole plants were harvest every soil sampling to obtain the dry matter production and to nitrogen content determination. At the flowering stage leaves were collected to nutrient status assessment. The cattle manure application increased the number of flowers per plant but no increase in fruit dry matter production was found. Greater roots dry matter production was obtained with poultry litter + mineral fertilizer. Organic fertilization associated to mineral fertilizer did not increase Goldex F1 fruits yield in relation to single fertilizers application. No nitrogen deficiency symptoms in plants were found during plant development with cattle manure application and poultry litter, indicating that soil organic nitrogen was mineralized. |
