Resumo: The present research had the objective to evaluate the level of satisfaction of technical-administrative civil servants who work at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) – campus Fortaleza, allocated at the secretary offices of graduate programs (stricty sensu). For analysis purposes, we have identified a group of 40 professionals. Among these, we have selected at least one secretary from each of the academic units at UFC that had master's and doctoral programs working at the same, composing a total of 10 professionals with more than three years of functional exercise. We have used semi-structured interviews, performed individually, about the following topics: a) admission to the graduate secretary; b) caracterization of the secretary function of graduate programs (stricty sensu); c) conditions of work; d) interpersonal relationships with superior administrators, chiefs, coleagues and students; e) work-related diseases. The interviews were transcribed and analised using the discourse analysis technique, what allowed to bring up some categories that served as a basis for the discussion of the proposed problem. It was also found that the great majority of the civil servants is dissatisfied with salary losses that resulted from lack of rewards to the function, deviation of function, disregard of major academic titles; work overload, difficulties to get vacations, the material and physical conditions for the development of their work, and difficulties with interpersonal relationships with faculty members. And they express satisfaction with the recognition of their work by faculty, directors, and coleagues and students; with the autonomy to develop their work and with the work environment. Despite the great level of dissatisfaction, the civil servants expressed that they enjoy the work that they develop and that they feel professionally accomplished. There are indications that they may be developing some occupational diseases such as repetitive effort lesion and tendinitis; psychosomatic such as hipertension, pneumonia from low imunity, insomnia and anxiety, besides psychological diseases such as anguish and depression. The results make evident that, despite the fact that the civil servants find other forms of reward, beyond financial ones that give meaning to their work and give them joy, they are more dissatisfied than satisfied. Furthermore, the activities developed during the exercise of their function, the stress and the difficulties of interpersonal relationships with faculty may be harmed the health of those Professionals.
