Resumo: |
This study intended to show evidences of elder’s social views within their daily lives in a nursing Home. It looked for cognitive and affectionate data from this particular context based upon Moscovicfs Social Representation Theory. Data collection was conducted by means of interviews and participant observation among 12 elder women in a nursing home in Fortaleza between January and July in 2000. The process analysis occurred through Bardin’s content analysis which themes were produced based on the sharing experience and feelings combined with the Moscovicfs theory. The findings showed that these women held negative feelings with regards their lives conditions and elderhood. For them, the nursing home environment reinforces the feeling of loneliness and society’s rejection for the elders. Also, the elder womeij who li ve d with their family closely has more difficulties to adapt than those who Lived independently and chose such kind of living. For most, the nursing home is an appropriate house for those who are in a poverty condition. Indeed, they do not know any other way of living or assistance for the elders, thus they believe that it is the family’s responsibility to take care of them. |
